Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Teaming Up With JJ Abrams For What Some Fans Think Is a New Superhero Project

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is teasing a mysterious new project involving JJ Abrams, taking to Instagram to share a photo of himself at dinner with Abrams, X-Men writer Zak Penn, and producer Hiram Garcia (who has a lot of fans doing double takes over his resemblance to Vin Diesel).

Johnson wrote in the caption, "Years in the making — we finally broke bread, we drank, we laughed, got a lil’ drunk (maybe that was just me) we talked life stuff, love stuff, dude stuff and took our time chopping up our passion for movies and storytelling. Then we all raised a glass and toasted to…. yup, this one is gonna be fun."

He signed the photo "JJ & DJ from the mind of Zak Penn" with a cryptic, "… tonight, it comes to life…"

The image has fans speculating over the possibility of a superhero team-up in light of Penn's pedigree as a writer. In addition X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, Penn was a co-writer on The Avengers and 2008's The Incredible Hulk. His most recent movie credit is 2021's Free Guy, which he co-wrote with Matt Lieberman.

Both Johnson and Abrams are still recovering from high-profile misfires in Black Adam and Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker respectfully. While Johnson has mostly kept busy in the wake of Black Adam, appearing in Red One and the upcoming Moana 2, Abrams has kept a comparatively low-profile since 2019.

We'll know soon enough what the Abrams and The Rock are cooking. In the meantime, check out all the rest of the biggest movies releasing in 2024.
