We're exactly three weeks and a day away from Halloween. If you're looking to spend the rest of the October leadup watching as much horror as your mental health will allow, now is the perfect time to stock up on some physical Blu-ray and/or 4K UHD editions of top-tier movies and TV shows – and I mean right now because Amazon's second Prime Day of the year ends at midnight tonight. Not every one of these discounts are exclusive to "Prime Big Deal Days," but most will disappear after the sale ends tonight. Might as well save yourself a few bucks on some things that you should probably have in that Blu-ray collection of yours anyway. (At least, that's how I'm justifying it to myself.)
For even more of deals still on the table, check out our huge list of the best Blu-rays and 4K UHDs on sale and everything else still worth buying during the last few hours of Prime Day 2.
New Horror Movies and Shows
I'm calling "new" anything that came out in the last 10 years. The brand-new Alien: Romulus steelbook is on sale for Prime Day, as well as one of the scariest movies of 2024, Talk to Me. The newer Evil Dead installment, Evil Dead Rise, is more than half off on Blu-Ray. Some other modern hits, like Ari Aster's Midsommar (as well as his more polarizing Beau Is Afraid) and It Follows, are also pretty heavily discounted. Lastly, pick up Season 1 of The Last of Us on Blu-ray to start getting ready for Season 2 next year.
Classic Horror Movies
All of these essential horror movies are must-cops for horror heads. The Exorcist, Hitchcock's Vertigo, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Beetlejuice, and a few other stone-cold classics are getting nice price slashes right now. If you've somehow yet to see any of the above films above, I highly suggest remedying that ASAP.
Horror(-ish) Anime
Are these technically action anime? Yeah, maybe. They're also all plenty scary enough to cross over with horror (and sci-fi, but who cares). The main point is that Akira and Ghost in the Shell in 4K UHD will always be easy purchases to recommend, regardless of pedantic genre classifcation. The Berserk on sale this time around is not the 1997 original anime series that was big during Prime Day in July (though it is a few bucks cheaper than usual); it's the far less-good 2016 series with very 2016 CGI animation, but it is almost 50% off. The back half of the final season of Attack on Titan is more than half off, too.
Horror Movie Collections
What's better than one movie? At least two movies. This Saw 10-Film collection gets you every single movie in the francise for a little more than $4/each. The Matrix Déjà vu set is maybe not as good of a value when broken down in crude price-per-widget, but it is still 61% below its usual price. The twofer of Clive Barker's first two Hellraiser movies are going for cheap, and the double feature of Jordan Peele's Get Out and Us would only be improved if it was made into a triple feature with Nope in the same set.
