20th Century Studios has announced a VHS release of Alien: Romulus.
For some of the younger IGN readers, VHS (Video Home System) was the dominant physical media format of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. The tapes were eventually replaced by DVDs, which came in the mid-to-late 90s before total dominance from the 2000s.
Veteran Alien fans will probably have fond memories of the films on VHS tapes, with Alien, then Aliens, and Alien 3 all hitting VHS at various points in the 80s and 90s. Now, 20th Century Studios is rekindling those memories by releasing ‘interquel’ Alien: Romulus, on limited edition VHS on December 3, complete with full screen 4×3 aspect ratio.

An ultimate movie collector’s dream, the fully functioning VHS tape was created in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the legendary Alien franchise, the box features artwork by renowned artist Matt Ferguson.
If you don’t fancy Alien: romulus on VHS, don’t worry, it’s also coming out on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on December 3, with exclusive bonus features, including featurettes with filmmakers Fede Alvarez and Ridley Scott, behind the scenes content, and alternate and extended scenes.
Alien: Romulus hit cinemas in August and was a box office hit to the tune of $350 million worldwide. That’s significantly higher than its predecessor, 2017's Alien: Covenant, managed ($240 million) and the second-highest in Alien franchise history.
Set between the events of seminal 1979 horror film Alien and 1986's more action-oriented Aliens, Romulus tells the story of a group of young space colonists who scavenge an abandoned space station only to encounter the xenomorphs.
