Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Has Huge $110 Million Opening Weekend

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had a massive $110 million opening weekend, marking the second-biggest September debut of all-time in the U.S.

Variety reports that Tim Burton’s horror comedy sequel, which arrives 36 years after the original and sees many of its stars reprise their roles, is ahead of 2019’s It: Chapter 2 ($91 million debut) and second only to 2017’s It ($123 million debut) in the September box office debut list.

As for 2024 debuts, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is in third behind Inside Out 2 and all-conquering MCU movie Deadpool & Wolverine.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also enjoyed a strong debut internationally, adding another $35.4 million. That makes for a worldwide total of $145.4 million, off a $100 million production budget. IGN’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice review returned a 7/10. We said: “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a charming (if weightless) legacy sequel where the whole cast is having fun.”

Does Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’s commercial success mean a third film is now inevitable? Tim Burton has cast doubt on the possibility of Beetlejuice 3, but you never know. While we wait to find out, check out our Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: Is There a Post-Credits Scene, Plus Ending Explained feature.

Meanwhile, sci-fi horror ‘interquel’ Alien: Romulus is now up to $314 million worldwide a month after release, off a relatively modest production budget of $80 million.
