Deadpool & Wolverine Had the Largest R-Rated Global Box Office Opening Ever With $438.3 Million

Deadpool & Wolverine had the largest R-rated global box office opening ever with a staggering $438.3 million and the eighth-biggest domestic weekend box office debut of all time with ticket sales reaching $205 million.

A reported by Disney and Box Office Mojo, Deadpool & Wolverine dominated at the domestic box office by surpassing Black Panther's $202 million opening weekend and just barely missed out on taking over The Avengers' $207 million and Jurassic World's $208 million. Just for fun context, the film's very impressive opening paled in comparison to Avengers: Endgame's massive $357 million debut.

Additionally, Deadpool & Wolverine had the highest July opening weekend of all-time by taking down 2019's The Lion King, the biggest opening since 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, and the second largest opening for a third installment behind only 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

As if that wasn't enough, Deadpool & Wolverine also helped Marvel Studios cross $30 billion at the global box office, meaning the MCU is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time.

In our Deadpool & Wolverine review, we said it is " an outrageous, consistently funny superhero comedy that succeeds largely thanks to the contagious enthusiasm of leads Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, and a surprisingly classy perspective on superhero movie history."
