Funko has developed a reputation for having some of the most expansive and elaborate booths at San Diego Comic-Con, and this year's show looks to be no exception. IGN can exclusively reveal the first details about this year's booth, a massive setup dubbed Funkoville International Airport.
As the name suggests, this latest incarnation of the Funko booth carries a travel and aviation theme. The idea is that attendees will head to this faux-airport and travel to the various individual booths contained within, including Funko (#5341), Pop! Yourself (#5045), Loungefly (#5145), Mondo (#5137) and Funko Fusion (#5137).
The Pop! Yourself activation is the centerpiece of this massive setup. Fans can create their own, personalized Funko Pop! figures, this time with exclusive accessories inspired by the Deadpool & Wolverine movie. These figures include a character body and two additional accessories, and the figures come included with exclusive Comic-Con packaging and a "buddy" collectible. The Pop! Yourself activation costs $50, and there will also be an online version so fans following from home can participate.
“Last year, we introduced our Pop! Yourself program to our fans and the response has been beyond what we could have ever imagined,” said Johanna Gepford, SVP, Revenue, in a statement. “Celebrating our one-year anniversary by directly engaging with the deep-rooted fandom of our Funko community allows us to immerse our fans in all things Funko at the epicenter of pop culture with our brand-new cosplay experience inspired by Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine.”
The Funko, Loungefly and Mondo booths will all cater to those looking to do a little shopping, with all three booths playing host to SDCC-exclusive collectibles to be revealed at a later date. The Funko Fusion booth, meanwhile, is centered around the upcoming Funko Fusion game and spin a wheel to win prizes. Funko will also be selling a Funko Passport book for $5 , with fans having the option of collecting four exclusive stamps from the various booths.
Finally, the annual Funko Fundays event will continue. This year's event will be held on Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27, with Funko unveiling a variety of contests, giveaways and announcements.
The Funkoville International Airport booth will be open to all registered SDCC attendees, running from Wednesday, July 24 through Sunday, July 28.
